Kirley Maple platter;
Maple (big leaf) — Acer macrophyllum; from
Chehalis, Washington; 7-9/16” dia. x 1-1/8” tall; finished with mineral oil & wax.

This big leaf maple bowl came from a storm-felled tree that landed across the driveway of JoAnne Kirley, Chehalis, Washington. The name “Kirley Maple” is a bit of an inside joke for wood aficionados, as “curly maple” refers to a rippled grain phenomenon, though not particularly evident on this piece, that results from growth stress.
